Originally established in 1936 under the name Parrot Jungle by Austrian-born Franz Scherr, the park was created as a tropical environment where birds could fly freely.
Over the years, Jungle Island has become known for its focus on educating visitors about parrots and other exotic animals. The park includes a range of attractions such as pop-up waterslides, an outdoor wind tunnel for flight experiences, zip lines, escape rooms, and a Nerf battle arena.
Visitors can also enjoy wildlife exhibits featuring species like capybaras, lemurs, capuchin monkeys, flamingos, and macaws, among others. The park operates daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last entry allowed by 4 p.m.
Jungle Island also offers shows such as the Guardians of the Jungle and features areas like Treewalk Village, the Everglades habitat, a playground, and the Manu Aviary.
Over its history, the attraction has hosted notable guests including Winston Churchill in 1946, and two of its parrots appeared on the cover of a Jimmy Buffet album in 1985.
