Inter Miami announced on Friday the signing of Mexican-American goalkeeper Luis Barraza, who spent last season in Major League Soccer (MLS) with D.C. United. The signing bolsters the Florida club’s goalkeeping corps ahead of the new MLS season.

According to an official statement, 29-year-old Luis Barraza signed a contract with Inter Miami thru June 2027, with the option to extend the deal until June 2028.

The goalkeeper arrived as a free agent after his contract with D.C. United expired; he played in 24 matches last season and kept four clean sheets, figures that underscore his experience in MLS.

Born in New Mexico, Barraza has developed his career in American soccer, establishing himself as a goalkeeper with league experience and a knowledge of the competitive pace of MLS.

His arrival represents a commitment to depth and internal competition in a key position for the Miami club.

Strong competition for the goalkeeper position at Inter Miami

With the addition of Luis Barraza, Inter Miami will have intense competition in goal. The Mexican-American goalkeeper will compete for the starting spot with:

Rocco RĂ­os Novo, the Argentine goalkeeper who finished last season as the starter.

Dayne St. Clair, the club’s recent signing and winner of the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Inter Miami is going for the MLS and the Concacaf

The Miami team will enter the new season with the goal of defending the MLS title won in 2025 and pursuing its first Concacaf Champions Cup, a trophy that remains unprecedented in the club’s history.
