Palantir Technologies Moved Its Headquarters to Miami in 2026

Palantir Technologies Inc., founded in 2003 by Peter Thiel, Stephen Cohen, Joe Lonsdale, Alex Karp and Nathan Gettings, moved its headquarters to Aventura, about 20 miles north of Miami, according to the company’s annual report released in February 2026. The move followed an earlier relocation from Palo Alto to Denver, Colorado, in 2020.

Key fact
Palantir’s name comes from the seeing stones in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, a reference chosen by its founders.

From PayPal Fraud Detection to a New Company

The company’s origins trace back to fraud detection systems its founders built at PayPal, an experience that motivated them to create software capable of advanced data analysis. Palantir was founded with the goal of improving data integration and analysis to help prevent terrorist attacks, initially receiving funding from the CIA to support U.S. government efforts in the years after 9/11.

Why Palantir Moved to the Miami Area

Palantir’s move to Aventura adds the company to a wave of tech and finance firms that have relocated to South Florida in recent years, drawn by the region’s tax environment and growing talent pool. The company has since broadened beyond its counterterrorism roots to address topics such as privacy, security and the safe implementation of artificial intelligence in its technology, while continuing to integrate large data sources to identify threats for both government and commercial clients.
