Florida ranks second among the most fun states in the U.S., according to WalletHub’s 2026 rankings—though the result may say more about the sheer number of ways to spend one’s time than about any major revelation regarding life in the state.
With a score of 64.14 out of 100, Florida trailed California (67.35), while Illinois, Nevada, and New York rounded out the top five.
The study compared all 50 states using 26 indicators related to entertainment, recreation, and nightlife, allowing for a quantitative look at something Floridians already know well. The assessment covered “restaurants, amusement parks, attractions, movie theaters, festivals, outdoor activities, and nightlife venues.”
Florida boasts the highest number of restaurants, amusement parks, arcades, and music festivals per capita in the U.S. Additionally, it ranks seventh in establishments dedicated to arts, entertainment, and recreation, and fourth in attractions per person.

Adding to the appeal is a geography that is hard to ignore. Florida has the most marinas per capita and the second-longest coastline in the country. With its beaches, theme parks, restaurants, museums, concerts, sports, and water activities, the state offers so much that little explanation is needed to justify its ranking.
Nightlife also contributes to the score, with Florida placing seventh in this category. For cities like Miami, this figure is hardly surprising, given that bars, music, dining, cultural events, and shows are available for much of the year.

WalletHub also factored in costs and accessibility, a decision that adds some perspective to the enthusiastic figures. The average Florida resident spends nearly $2,300 annually on recreational services, a figure that places the state 18th in the nation.
