Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump this Sunday in Florida, in a key effort to advance a peace agreement that would end the war between Russia and Ukraine, a conflict that has dragged on for nearly four years.

The meeting is shaping up to be one of the most significant diplomatic moves in recent months, amid international efforts to halt the Russian invasion and establish long-term security guaranties for Ukraine.

Zelensky acknowledges that the agreement is not yet finalized

Speaking to the press on Friday, Volodymyr Zelensky was cautious about the potential outcome of a meeting with Trump, noting that a definitive agreement cannot be guaranteed, although he stressed that both sides will seek to «finalize as many points as possible».

Hours earlier, the Ukrainian president had expressed optimism on his official X account, stating that «many things can be decided before the end of the year», which raised expectations of a possible significant breakthrough in the peace process.

The peace plan between Ukraine and the United States is 90% complete

Zelensky revealed that the 20-point peace plan, jointly drafted by Ukrainian and U.S. officials, is 90% complete, representing considerable progress after months of stalled negotiations.

According to the Ukrainian president, one of the central topics of the conversation with Trump will be how Western allies can guaranty Ukraine’s security once the war ends, a key point to prevent future aggression by Russia.

The White House has not confirmed the meeting between Trump and Zelensky

So far, the White House has not officially confirmed the meeting announced by Zelensky. However, the announcement comes amid intense diplomatic activity, after the Ukrainian president offered concessions on some of the most sensitive issues that had stalled the U.S.-mediated peace process.

These concessions are aimed at unlocking key negotiations, although it remains unclear whether they will be sufficient to satisfy the Kremlin, which maintains a firm stance on several of the conflict’s most controversial issues.

Will Russia accept Ukraine’s concessions?

Despite the apparent progress, uncertainty persists about Russia’s reaction. International analysts warn that the concessions proposed by Zelensky may not be sufficient for Moscow, which casts doubt on the viability of a final agreement in the short term.

The Kremlin has not issued any recent comments on the possible meeting between Zelensky and Trump, nor on the current status of the peace plan promoted by Washington.

A possible meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump in Florida could mark a turning point in the war in Ukraine, especially if consensus is reached on security, reconstruction, and international guaranties.
