Knicks Stars Throw First Pitches at Yankee Stadium After NBA Win

The New York Knicks championship celebration continued Wednesday night as stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart took center stage at Yankee Stadium, throwing out ceremonial first pitches before the Yankees hosted the Chicago White Sox. The appearance marked another memorable moment in the team’s victory tour following their first NBA title in over five decades.

Fans at the iconic Bronx ballpark greeted the basketball heroes with a thunderous standing ovation as they walked onto the field. A video montage showcasing highlights from the Knicks’ championship run played on the stadium screens while both players, dressed in Yankees pinstripes, prepared for their moment on the mound. Brunson delivered his pitch to backup catcher J.C. Escarra, while Hart threw to utility player Max Schuemann.

The Yankee Stadium appearance came just one day before New York City honors the team with what Mayor Zohran Mamdani predicted could be the largest ticker-tape parade in the city’s history. This will be the franchise’s first parade celebration, as their previous championship victories in 1970 and 1973 were celebrated at the mayoral mansion and City Hall. Earlier in the week, the team made the media rounds with appearances on NBC’s TODAY show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Good Morning America.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised the Knicks’ remarkable journey, highlighting the team’s grit and mental toughness that captured the hearts of New York sports fans. The Knicks dominated the postseason with a 16-3 record, matching the 2024 Boston Celtics for the second-best playoff winning percentage since 2003. Brunson, who averaged 32.6 points during the Finals and earned MVP honors after his 45-point performance in the clinching Game 5 against San Antonio, has now thrown out a first pitch at a New York baseball game for the second time since joining the franchise.

Adding a special family connection to the evening, Josh Hart is the great-nephew of Yankees legend Elston Howard, whose number 32 jersey is retired by the team and honored with a plaque in Monument Park. The Knicks set multiple records during their championship run, including nine consecutive road victories and outscoring opponents by 283 total points throughout the postseason.
